When I was young, I saw many grandmothers who had these beautiful, huge, long ferns as houseplants. After moving to a country with a colder climate, I thought it was impossible to take care of them, so I wasn’t very interested, but after searching for information on how to take care of them, I finally got my fern.

 Today I was a little inspired to hang up my two ferns so that you can see how beautiful they are. Instead of a normal potted plant, I used a wooden disk (which I already had at home), a weed fleece (which I bought on eBay), a few screws, a clamp, orchid bark and sphagnum moss.

Easy DIY plant hanger

• Cut a piece of the weed fleece sufficient to cover the entire wooden disk and lay out a few cloths.
• At first I thought of attaching the weed fleece with small nails, but then I remembered I had a staple, that would be a better idea. I made some plaid and attached it with the staples.

• I drew a straight line for the screws so that I can later thread a nylon cord or garden wire through them to hang the piece when I’m finished.

• It’s time to fill it with orchid bark and peat moss (these two types of ferns I have can survive without regular soil mixing – more on how to look after them in this post here).
• The ferns were finally able to move to their new home and are now hanging in my bathroom (as in the first photo).

 What I realized after I finished everything was that some of the old soil was still on the roots of the fern, that was fine because it would be really hard to remove it all without damaging the delicate roots, while I was watering, a little of the old soil scraped through the fabric, I think it’ll stop in the near future as I continued to water the plants. It’s so perfect for watering, there’s no fear of watering too much, and if it’s dry it’s easy to check (maybe if I could find some light colored fabric that would help even more). I can use a spray bottle to spray the plants, even if I were to hang them outside the bathroom (I’m not afraid of water dripping on the floor), in a living room wall for example, I wouldn’t have to worry about spraying them – because there’s a thick piece of wood behind the plants.
